Become a lifeguard

Join our National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) course, conducted regularly at the Baths, and become a certified lifeguard equipped with essential life-saving skills.

Course details:

• Whether you’re a student, professional, or just someone passionate about water safety, our lifeguard courses are open to individuals aged 16 and above who meet the criteria required from The Royal Life Saving Society’s basic swimming ability.
• Courses typically run during school holidays.
• The course is priced at £270, covering all aspects of lifeguard training. Alternatively, participants can opt for a reduced cost of £70 by committing to 40 volunteer hours with us.
• This unique option not only makes the course more accessible but also provides invaluable hands-on experience within our leisure team.

Course structure:

• The NPLQ course spans five full days, usually Monday to Friday.
• Participants will undergo training in a variety of essential lifeguard skills, including a written exam, defibrillator usage, practical CPR, first aid, and a wet side assessment, featuring timed swims and rescuing casualties with spinal injuries.
• The course concludes with a comprehensive assessment on the final day, ensuring that participants are well-prepared to handle real-life lifeguarding scenarios.
• The NPLQ now offers the added bonus of eight UCAS points, making it a valuable credential for academic pursuits too.
