Lovingly embedded in the local community, the not-for-profit Love Withington Baths is Manchester’s last working Edwardian pool. In 2013, Love Withington Baths took over the day-to-day running of the Baths, saving it from closure. Once upon a time, public baths were built all across the city and were an integral part of Manchester’s industrialisation, supporting healthier lifestyles for working people.
The foundation stone was laid in 1911, with the Baths opening on 1st May 1913. In 2015 the pool was saved from closure and taken over by Love Withington Baths, which is a community-led charitable organisation.
The Edwardian Baths currently hosts a 23-metre swimming pool, sauna, gym and two studios as well as a café and coworking space, Withington Works.
Today, Withington Baths remains not just a historic landmark but a vibrant space where the past blends seamlessly with the present, welcoming all to be part of its rich narrative.
With an emphasis on community engagement and promoting a healthy lifestyle, Withington Baths is a popular centre for individuals and families looking to stay active and social.
Thanks to support from our local community, the National Lottery Heritage Fund and Manchester City Council, we have been able to complete a large restoration phase, bringing this Edwardian gem closer to its former glory and cement its purpose within our community. The National Lottery Heritage Fund donated £1m and we also received two smaller grants from the Garfield Weston Foundation (£30,000) and The Oglebsy Charitable Trust (£30,000).
Volunteering at Withington Baths provides a rewarding experience with valuable opportunities for you to engage in. It allows you to learn about our ambition, operation and delivery.
